Agave plant with mast and flower



Agave - "Plant of the Century". The agave lives for decades but only flowers once. The plant just before it dies grows a mast and flowers. The mast may reach 20 feet tall.

A strawberry hedgehog cactus with a purple flower on Huckaby Trail.

A desert wolf spider can be seen in is burrow.  Note the web which he has spun.  The spider spins a funnel shaped web which forms a tunnel, leading into the burrow.  The "Funnel-Web Wolf Spider" is common to Arizona.
